Depart from the North Island's largest earth dam and view the ignimbrite cliffs. Then venture up the Rangitaiki river to experience jet boating through willowed farm land and then encounter white water rapids in the scenic gorge to the Aniwhenua Falls.
A trip with Kiwi Jet Boat Tours up the Rangitaiki River can truly be described as "unforgettable" from the beginning to end. It's not only the witty commentary from owner/driver, Bill Roberts, that makes it so memorable, or the magnificent Ignimbrite walls of the Matahina Dam and ever changing scenery. It's the exciting and sometimes heart-stopping moments along the way that will linger in the minds of passengers.
Starting in the beautiful tranquil Lake Matahina, which has the North Island’s largest earth dam that was commissioned in 1967 and underwent major re-strengthening in 1997. You travel 25km up-stream to the Aniwhenua Falls, passing on the way through some of New Zealand’s best trout fishing water, sheep and dairy farms, under tunneled willow trees and into a natural gorge enhanced by weeping falls and caves and dominating white water rapids. It is fast enough for the wind to blow through your hair, but slow enough to take in the diverse scenery. This is a 1 1/4 hour jet boat tour that gives you a real jet boating experience.
